Brothers Symposium Polo Shirts may be ordered

Picture
To commemorate the first ever National Symposium on the Life & Vocation of Religious Brothers, the planning committee commissioned black polo shirts with the emblem of the Symposium “You will be my witnesses” embroidered over the breast pocket.  The vendor who created them is willing to make shirts “on demand” for others.

If you are interested in ordering a shirt, please contact Br. Anthony Pierce, OSB via email on branthony@subi.org and he will put you in touch with the vendor.  The cost of each shirt is $21.00 plus $4.00 shipping fee.

Final Symposium Announcements ... liturgy to be Live-Streamed ...

We are completing our final preparations for the upcoming Brothers Symposium to be held at the University of Notre Dame on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  Over 215 people have registered for the event, representing 32 different communities of men and six communities of sisters, as well as several high schools, colleges, and other diocesan and faith-based organizations.

For all those who will not have the opportunity to travel to Notre Dame for the Symposium, we are happy to announce that we have arranged for the keynote address and responses, and the opening prayer and closing remarks, to be videotaped.  These recordings will eventually be made available on this website and those of our other Symposium sponsoring organizations.

In addition, we are very grateful for the continued generosity of our University of Notre Dame sponsors who have informed us that they will be live-streaming the closing Mass on Saturday, March 25th at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time). Cardinal Joe Tobin, C.Ss.R., will be the main celebrant and homilist for the liturgy at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame Campus.  This will be the Vigil Mass for the 4th Sunday of Lent and we hope many Symposium participants will attend as a final tribute to the religious brothers who have served us so well for so many years.

Please provide the link below to anyone interested in watching this Mass via the internet.  The link takes you to the Basilica webpage at UStream and will be live shortly before 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time) on Saturday, March 25th.  We look forward to celebrating this liturgy in person with all the Symposium participants and would be pleased to have many others join us “virtually” via the internet.

Important Symposium Updates announced ...

We are delighted to announce that we now have 160 persons enrolled for the National Symposium on the Life of Religious Brothers. They represent 28 different communities of religious men as well as several religious sisters and lay persons who minister with religious brothers in schools, hospitals, and parishes.  Enrollments are still encouraged and we look forward to seeing all of you!

Please see the updated information below, including our current morning and afternoon agendas.  We have much to share and only one day so we plan to keep all modules running on time to fit it all in.  For many who are unable to travel to Notre Dame to join us in person, we have made arrangements for portions of the program to be videotaped.  We also are grateful to the staff at the Basilica who are working with us to "live-stream" the Mass with Cardinal Tobin ... a link will be provided on this website so that others may "pray with us remotely" via an internet connection at the time of the Vigil Mass.  Further details will be provided for this in March.

Join us @ the National symposium on the life of the religious brother at the university of notre dame

PictureBr. John Mark Falkenhain, OSB
The Brothers Think Tank proudly announces the National Symposium on the Life of the Religious Brother, an event at the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, Indiana), to be held on the Feast of the Annunciation, Saturday, March 25, 2017.  The program, based on the Vatican document on the "Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in Church" published in December 2015, is also being sponsored by the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, the National Religious Vocation Conference, the Religious Brothers Conference, the Religious Formation Conference, and the University of Notre Dame.

This Symposium is not only for religious brothers -- priests, sisters, laity, and students interested in learning more about the vocation of the Religious Brother are warmly invited to attend.

Brother John Mark Falkenhain, OSB and professor of psychology at St. Meinrad's Seminary, will be the keynote speaker for the Symposium.  Responders and panel discussion participants from several religious communities and ministries served by religious brothers will be important contributors to the Symposium agenda which will be published on this website in early January.  Brothers Think Tank members representing 12 different communities of religious men will be also assisting on-site at Notre Dame.

PictureCardinal Joseph Tobin, C.Ss.R.
Participants in the Brothers Symposium are also invited to conclude the day at the Vigil Mass for Sunday which will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the University of Notre Dame campus.

We are delighted that Cardinal Joseph Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey, will be the homilist and main celebrant at this liturgy. Cardinal Tobin will also be providing the summary reflections of the day at the conclusion of the Symposium.

Additional weekend and week day liturgy options include those scheduled at Holy Cross College and St. Mary's College, both also located in South Bend, Indiana.

All participants are asked to check-in at the registration area of the DeBartolo Building between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 25th so that the opening session may begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Br. John Paige, CSC, President, Holy Cross College, Notre Dame will welcome everyone to Notre Dame and introduce Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Ft. Wayne/South Bend, who will offer brief opening comments and a prayer to begin the day. CMSM Executive Director Fr. John Pavlik, OFM Cap. will be the master of ceremonies for the day's events and Br. Paul Michalenko, ST of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, will serve as facilitator for the panel discussions.

Early registration will be online via this website:  BROTHERS SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION.  Space permitting, walk-in registrations will be available on the morning of the Symposium.

The conference fee ($50 for student participants and $75 for non-students) will cover the cost of the program and lunch which will be served at the South Dining Hall at the University.

(Please note that if you already have a PayPal account, the screens which you'll fill out to register for the Symposium online will expect/require that you use your PayPal account to pay the conference fee.  If instead you click on "pay by debit or credit card" and you already have a PayPal account, the registration system will basically cancel your online registration even if you've already completed the whole form.  Word to the wise:  If you have a PayPal account, use it to pay.)
