Second ReLIGIOUS BROTHERS DAY OBSERVED WORLDWIDE - May 1, 2018

On May 1st, 2018 Religious Brothers were celebrated throughout North America.

Reports also cited celebrations in Ireland and Australia.

Religious Brothers Day, an initiative of the Brothers Think Tank, gives all of us in the Church and beyond, an opportunity to celebrate the Mission and Identity of the Religious Brother.

The CMSM Facebook post has reached almost 8000 people and has been shared 65 times.  Other forms of social media such as Twitter and Instagram also carried various posts and pictures celebrating the day.

We encourage our members to send pictures, reflections and recollections of local celebrations to Brother Peter O'Loughlin; these may be added to the growing list of such items on the Religious Brothers Day website.

Thanks to all for sharing and promoting the second Religious Brothers Day; we look forward to the third on May 1, 2019!

Brother Peter O'Loughlin CFC
Chair, Religious Brothers Day Committee

Morning & Evening Prayer Services for Religious Brothers Day

The Religious Brothers Day Committee is grateful to Br. Sean Whitty, CFC, an Edmund Rice Christian Brother, who put together two beautiful prayer services which may be used by schools, parishes and other organizations to honor religious brothers on May 1.
If you are able to use one or both of these services as part of your organization's celebration of Religious Brothers Day, please send any photos or write-ups/web articles to Bro. Peter O'Loughlin. They may be published later on this website as well.
Thanks to the translation efforts of Edmund Rice Christian Brother John Casey, CFC, and De La Salle Christian Brother Chris Patiño, FSC, we also have a Spanish edition of the Morning and Evening Prayer services originally written by Edmund Rice Christian Brother, Sean Whitty, CFC.  Muchas gracias!

PRAYER CARD FOR "religious brothers day"

The prayer card to the right was commissioned specifically for Religious Brothers Day and focuses on the vocation of brothers – a gift given by God, received by the brothers, and shared with others.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Bro. Peter O'Loughlin.

God of mercy and compassion,
thank you for the extraordinary life, witness, and ministry
of Religious Brothers in our Church.

In your wisdom, you have called these ordinary men
to generously serve, pray,
and share your healing love with others.

As we prepare for our annual Religious Brothers Day,
deepen our appreciation for the vocation
of Religious Brothers, their congregational charisms,
and their commitment to vowed community life.

Strengthened by our baptismal call to holiness,
inspire us to invite men
to consider religious life as a Religious Brother.

Grant all Religious Brothers the grace and perseverance
they need to proclaim your Holy Word
for the life of our Church and our world.
Amen.

SAMPLE AnNOUNCEMENT FOR RELIGIOUS BROTHERS DAY

The Diocese of Brooklyn is planning a special gathering to mark the celebration of Religious Brothers Day. In this case, they are celebrating it a few days earlier in the context of Sunday Eucharist on April 29. We are providing a copy of this announcement as a sample of ways in which dioceses and other groups can promote this special day of celebration. Feel free to make use of this MS Word document and adjust it for your own announcements of special events for the day.

PROMOTING RELIGIOUS BROTHER DAY IN AN EDUCATION SETTING

Here are some great ideas for promoting the celebration of Religious Brother Day in a classroom or educational setting:
  • Offering specific prayers or a day of prayer for vocations to the consecrated life and Brothers vocation (see the prayer card above)
  • Vocation fair
  • Classroom presentations on consecrated life and the Brothers vocation
  • Ice-cream social with religious Brothers
  • Specific invitations to young people that “would make a good Brother/Sister”
  • A hand-written note or email of gratitude to a Brother you know
